Former MLB pitcher Anthony Varvaro dies in a car crash on way to the 9/11 memorial
Former Major League pitcher Anthony Varvaro died in a car crash while on his way to a September 11 memorial in Manhattan.
He played for three MLB teams - the Seattle Mariners, Atlanta Braves and Boston Red Sox - during his six-year career from 2010-15.
After retiring from baseball in 2016, he became a police officer with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
He voluntarily retired from MLB in 2016 to become a Port Authority police officer.
Varvaro Port Authority Sentinel Academia was an instructor and conducted annual in-service training for Port Authority police officers.
